    More everyday apps for the COSMIC desktop.

    What's new

    • Thunderbird for mail: COSMIC has no mail app of its own
    • GNOME Document Scanner for scanners
    • Firewall settings (firewall-config): open a port in Kinetic's strict firewall zone without the command line
    • git-lfs and wtype for development and Wayland automation
    • The fix for COSMIC's own shortcuts (the Super key, Alt+Tab, workspace keys), which 0.4.0 systems already received as a package update, is now in the ISO

    Upgrading from 0.4.0

    dnf upgrade brings the system to 0.5.0. The new apps are only in the ISO, so add them once:

    sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
sudo dnf install thunderbird simple-scan firewall-config git-lfs wtype

    Verifying the ISO

    The checksum file is signed with the ZypherOS key, fingerprint 098E 710A DBE3 FEE4 351B 44F4 0EE4 C89F 7AE0 182E (in the repo at packages/kinetic-repos/keys/RPM-GPG-KEY-zypheros):

    Write the ISO straight to a USB drive (dd, or Fedora Media Writer). Installing through Ventoy from a large external SSD has failed once and is still being looked into.
